I think a lot of the negativity is par for the course on Hackaday when dealing with HV (or other areas with safety concerns) projects. I got my share of the same thing with my “Quick 220 clone” project. Such projects should garner a healthy dose of paranoia, but I think where it goes wrong is when that converts into unfriendly skepticism – that somehow it’s impossible for an amateur working alone to build something that would pass muster with UL or CE.

That. Console. Is. Disgusting. Reminds me of my PT Cruiser’s cheapest part: the single piece off-white console.

L2 EVSE (preferably hardwired) is much safer, plus much better experience. Don’t have people say: “Why isn’t my car charged, it has been an hour?”

If you read carefully the related articles you will find that this module is mainly designed to switch lights aka lighbulbs. A 8A Triac is more than suitable to switch any standard household lamp. Please check the bigger one in your house. How big it is? 100W? 200W? 300W? Average value in probably in 99% of the cases between 40 to 100W. Anybody can to the math.

If you’re worried about activists using media to promote fear and doubt about science and medicine, you’re in the right place. At Science 2.0, scientists are the journalists. with no political bias or editorial control. But we can’t do it alone so please make a difference.

The comments section of this article is disgusting. Most people throwing rocks at TJ have no idea what they’re talking about, or their concerns are obviously apparent to anyone reading TJ’s post.

Called the MPSMv2, the core of the project is the ESP8266 module. The dev board itself can support anything with GPIO pins, whether it’s an Arudino, Raspberry Pi, or anything else with those features. Flashing the NodeMCU firmware is pretty much all that needs to be done in order to get the device up and running, and once you get the device connected to your WiFi you’ll be able to control whatever appliances you want.

Several hot features were brought over from Sony’s NEX and Cyber-shot digital cameras, including Sweep Panorama, 3D Sweep Panorama, Auto High-Dynamic Range, and Handheld Twilight modes, each of which strategically combine and align several images into one seamless shot. It’s pretty impressive stuff. As if that weren’t enough, Sony has added an extra mode for the SLT-series cameras — Multi-Frame NR — which operates similarly to the handheld twilight mode, but allows the ISO sensitivity to be specified.

Not to be argumentative, but please show me a case in which a H/O policy denied coverage for a fire loss because the homeowner used a non-UL listed device. H/O policies are contracts, strictly regulated by each state’s insurance department. The vast majority of H/O policies are “All Risk” based, meaning that you are covered for everything unless there is a specific exclusion for it. I have read many times on this forum and others about H/O policies not covering such claims, please show me ONE that actually is true. There may be one out there, but I have never seen it.

If Handheld Twilight and Multi-Frame NR modes are practical, Sweep Panorama is just plain fun. I’ve always been a fan of panoramic images, and spent more time than I care to remember back in the film days slicing and splicing together 4×6-inch prints with a razor blade and rubber cement, to make panoramas from sequences of individual shots. The Sony A33 and A55′s Sweep Panorama mode does all this for you inside the camera. Again taking advantage of Sony’s high-speed capture technology, Sweep Panorama collects dozens of individual images while you hold down the shutter button and "sweep" the camera from side to side or up and down. The powerful Bionz image-processing engine examines all these images, takes slices from each, applies geometric and tonal corrections to each slice, and then stitches them together into a single panoramic image. The results are stunning, and experimenting is loads of fun.

On our case a combo was the right solution. We use a contactor (a relay) to switch incoming power because it’s either on or off. But we use a SSR to switch elements on and off because they cycle on/off many times a minute.
