While the Sony A55 and A33′s singular claim to fame is its exceptional shooting speed, that’s only part of what it has to offer. Just in the last year, Sony has used its high-speed sensor technology to create a number of innovative new camera features that, on their face, have nothing to do with high-speed shooting. This hands-on report is already running far too long, so I’ll just make brief mention of some of these special Sony modes here. Even if you feel no need for 7 to 10 fps capture in your personal shooting, these special exposure modes alone would be reason enough to buy one of these cameras.

As for anti-static grounding, proper setups aren’t ‘hard grounded’. For reasons of safety they have resistances in the megohm range, (usually distributed resistance), between the technician and ground.

Lenovo is announcing a second ARM-powered Windows 10 laptop this week, and this time it’s a Yoga. The Lenovo Yoga C630 WOS (Windows on Snapdragon) is, as you might have guessed, powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 850 processor. It’s the first Windows laptop we’ve seen with the Snapdragon 850, and its a chip that Qualcomm specifically designed for always-connected Windows 10 PCs. This new processor ushers in the latest generation of ARM-powered Windows 10 laptops.

I think the issue is more that 8A might be fine for a light but embedding it where another future operator will reasonably assume it is rated at 15A is not fine.

I’ve paid 18’000.- CHF in Switzerland back in 2017 for a 9.3kW roof top installation and I’ve gotten 5’580.- CHF back from the Swiss government in cash. That’s like 13 cents per watt installed

Just took a few seconds? the speed of light must be a bit slower in whatever dimension you’re living in.

I stuck a finger in a light socket when I was about 3 years old back in Brooklyn NY and got a momentary buzz sensation. Nothing more. I got a few more 110V shocks as a US Army Air Force student of electronics back in 1944. No problems but I was warned to keep my left hand in my pocket in uncertain situations to not form a circuit through my heart, Here in Helsinki where I now live I have taken 220 V a couple of times. Nothing I’d recommend but no harm done. Nevertheless, I’m careful and never fool around with wet hands.

> those who haven had the opportunity to study electricity or had made the effort to study it. Can’t let Darwin wipe them out when they happens to the target market… Even worse is that there are people that want to build printers on their own, but are not qualified to wire stuff to line voltage safely.

I think it’s just fine and nice to see someone put care and thinking into this sort of thing in an unusual way for HaD. Usually people are either completely terrified or entirely cavalier about mains voltage in projects on here when all that is required is some respect and thoughtfulness like you have quite obviously displayed. Next you can add a power meter so you know how many quarters to give your friend ;)

The number on this photo is a little misleading. 337 mpg! I think I shot it after having the car for about ten minutes, nearly all of it without using the petrol engine. Still, it’s a nice little tease for any friends riding along.

Keep in mind that extension cords running from a generator can power anything that plugs into a wall socket, but not hard-wired appliances such as a furnace, sump pump or central air conditioner. If you want to run any of those during an outage, you will need to have a licensed electrician install a manual transfer switch (it looks like a mini circuit breaker) next to your main electrical panel. A heavy-duty cord from the generator plugs into the switch and allows you to power select circuits in your home. Prices vary depending on your market. In Neale’s case, she paid about $1,200 for the switch and installation, more than for the generator, which cost about $550.

Yup. That’s how you install an outlet for a big dryer or a welder or something than needs the extra power. Never occurred to me to utilize it for a computer PSU, but I suppose it’s pretty nice when you need to squeeze out every little bit of efficiency.
