And this AC vs DC case when it comes to skin effect, is a reason for why some Data centers use DC distribution, as most server products uses switch mode power supplies and therefor has an internal bridge rectifier.

On the Sony A33 and A55, the EVF can serve as both shooting and playback display. As mentioned earlier, the ability to check your shots and make camera settings without taking your eye from the eyepiece leads to a slightly different and more efficient shooting style; one that encourages you to learn the camera by feel and memory, rather than looking at the controls as you press them. I’ve only had a few days with the camera as of this writing, but can see that greater familiarity will produce a very efficient shooting style.
Back in the day the UK before EU harmonisation the nominal single phase domestic voltage was 240V ac and within a range of +10% and -6% ie 264V and 225.6 V Under EU harmonisation it is 230V +10% and -6% ie 256 V and 216.2 V. I can assure you that voltage control at Primary substations in the UK 33KV/11KV was lowered to the new nominal for the nominal voltage at secondary substations 11KV/415V/230V. A good thing really as it saves energy
Oh, and I have fixed about 15,000 of the old CRT TV’s so while my mistakes can’t ever be called good, they’re not without precedent.
I can see the benefit of inspection, I guess (that none of your wires popped off or something?). My comment on the relays was not that they were unsuitable, but that using the 240v coil as a 240v detector may or may not be entirely reliable because of holding vs. draw-in currents, box getting dropped, etc. although that’s edge-case engineering to an excessive degree and it really is perfectly fine.
I stuck a finger in a light socket when I was about 3 years old back in Brooklyn NY and got a momentary buzz sensation. Nothing more. I got a few more 110V shocks as a US Army Air Force student of electronics back in 1944. No problems but I was warned to keep my left hand in my pocket in uncertain situations to not form a circuit through my heart, Here in Helsinki where I now live I have taken 220 V a couple of times. Nothing I’d recommend but no harm done. Nevertheless, I’m careful and never fool around with wet hands.
True, but I have never seen a product use them. They will probably become popular with wifi powered stuff.
You don’t need a big contactor to switch 1A at 120v, you can get little “ice cube” relays that switch up to 10A at 120V and they have a plug-in base so easy to change out when they inevitably fail. Most of them, in new perfect condition, make barely any sound. Nothing compared to the noise of fans and stepper motors. The only issue I can see is running AC mains voltage through wiring that is going in parallel with low voltage. Would need to use thick jacketed, shielded cable to prevent too much EMI. Maybe it’d be better suited using a separate transformer just for the heated bed, rectified/regulated but still a higher voltage for better efficiency. Speaking just from my experience as an electrician and hobbyist level electronics/3d printing experience.
Only thing I can think is that it will send more current to high resistance loads like a human body, where lower voltage will send less. That’s the only thing inherently more dangerous about higher voltage, no?
The LCD improvement I found most the most dramatically useful was the brightness settings. Set to Auto brightness, the camera will brighten or dim the LCD display in response to ambient light. This helps a good bit in bright daylight, but the display still washes out in direct sunlight. If you’re shooting in bright sun, though, check out the Sony A33′s "Sunny Weather" LCD brightness setting. Wow – That’s a really bright display! It does blow out the top end of the display’s tone curve (that is, you won’t see any detail in the highlights in your images in this mode), but this is the first time I can honestly say that I had no trouble viewing a camera’s LCD screen in direct sunlight. It’s a really great feature, although I’m sure it further reduces the Sony A33′s already-short battery life.
Multilayer varistors (MLVs) address a specific part of the transient-voltage spectrum: the circuit-board environment. Although lower in energy, transients from ESD, inductive load switching, and even lightning-surge remnants might otherwise reach sensitive integrated circuits on the board. MLVs are also made of ZnO materials, but theyâre fabricated with interwoven layers of metal electrodes and produced in leadless ceramic packages. Theyâre designed to transition from a high-impedance state to a conduction state when subjected to voltages that exceed their nominal voltage rating.
