You do in fact need to be a licensed engineer/electrician to design stuff with mains voltage, or you need to have your work inspected and signed for by one. It’s not just a matter of good instruction – it’s illegal for the regular Joe to even repair mains powered circuits beyond swapping a frayed power cord.
You like many others here can wallow in their own baseless opinions, meanwhile millions including myself very safely charge up using 120 volts almost every night. I usually use a higher voltage for the BOLT, but the ELR mostly just charges on 120 the same as most VOLTS.
Coastal BC might be viable for them, here in the “temperate” bit of Ontario they’d be good in April and October.
Hopefully the era when people did industrial sourcing from an overgrown Beanie Baby marketplace will be looked back on by future generations, and they’ll laugh.
Flake has said he won’t back any judicial nominees until he sees a floor vote on legislation that protects special counsel Robert Mueller and his investigation into Russian election interference.
As someone who started playing with electronics in the days of B+ in the 350VDC range with double that across the main xformer’s secondary, I was utterly appalled at the idea of tying myself to a hard ground when working with some of the newer (for the time) solid-state stuff that was coming out. We had a respect for high voltage then that is often missing these days, this article is an excellent reminder that this is still needed.
With the nation’s network of public electric vehicle charging facilities still relatively thin, most EV owners charge their rides at home. This can be as easy to accomplish as plugging the car into a wall outlet or as complex as having solar panels installed to replenish an EV’s battery.
After checking to make sure the outlets are wired correctly, a 220v light bulb with light up across the two hots if they are opposite phase and not if they are the same phase.
I like these more and more. Good size for my needs, and handsome styling. Standard hybrid probably makes more sense for me, but I’d have to give it a look.
FR4 is actually quite a good insulator. It’s only real failure is when you have impurities on the surface of the PCB in very high humidity conditions. The impurities will cause the surface tension of the water molecules in air to lower and as this happens the water will condense onto the PCB. The water on the PCB reduces the effective creepage clearance and can cause a flash over or arc.
Installing a ceiling fan might not sound complicated, but it’s nothing like putting together a barbecue yourself. You’re trying to figure out the motor while hoisting a 70-pound fan 12 feet above the floor. Call me up—I can finish the job faster and safer than you could.
Let’s see, you’ve pooh-poohed my 12kV hit and [Scott_Tx]’s 90V one, so I guess 440V three-phase (was it the high leg, or one of the low legs?) is the sweet spot for you. Lucky for our edification that the boots did indeed save you. I knew someone who was quite thoroughly taken out by 220V in a basement while wearing (presumably damp) leather sandals.
