Now we’re getting into more serious stuff. The contactor is a relay that converts the low-voltage signal from the thermostat into a signal to switch on 220V power to the compressor and condenser. When these contactors fail, the A/C unit will go down. They are a cheap and easy to replace. Check the owner’s manual to locate the contactor and replacement model.
And for example the max continuous current one is “rated” for is 20A, and when I calculated the values without any heat sink, I should be able to run about 700mA. A lot of people forget to do this step before de-rating.
With the nation’s network of public electric vehicle charging facilities still relatively thin, most EV owners charge their rides at home. This can be as easy to accomplish as plugging the car into a wall outlet or as complex as having solar panels installed to replenish an EV’s battery.
Uh, maybe i should not post using a foreign language a 01:00 AM… Correction: It should be broken –> It COULD be broken
I like these more and more. Good size for my needs, and handsome styling. Standard hybrid probably makes more sense for me, but I’d have to give it a look.
Rob complains that the board isn’t laid out for 240 VAC — yet I see ample clearance between traces. Other users complain that the board isn’t designed to drive a full 15A load, yet most commercially-available, UL-listed dimmers I’ve seen are rated for 800W or less. The Lutron dimmers I paid almost $30 a pop for only do 600W.
That said. We routinely use run of the mill power resistors in the aluminum heatsinked package, you know the ones, they start with the letter “D”, as heaters. Ohms law doesn’t fucking care if it’s DC or AC, but a little RMS will explain that DC will do the same amount of work at a lower voltage. It doesn’t fucking matter because you can choose another resistor value and get the same thing with AC. A cheap temperature controller and a relay will suffice if you have enough thermal mass to average the temperature.
Beside the Canadian electrical code require fully dedicated 20 amps circuit for 120 volts vehicule charging. Common receptacle are week and cheap and are worn by abuse plugins and pulling all sorts of appliances in and out.
My own maxim is that just because something can be – and perhaps often is – done poorly or hazardously does not at all preclude any possibility that it can be done properly and safely.
Electric blankets have lots of testing to ensure they’re safely insulated from the user. They also don’t get nearly as hot. They also use too much power to economically run from a low voltage PSU.
VAC says: “The two 120V legs are *in phase* with each other.” Of course they are not. *by definition* if they were in phase there would be no voltage difference between them. The two 120V legs are 180 degrees different from each other, so the difference between them is 240V. Which is (of course) the supply voltage.
This Niro looks like a decent design with acceptable styling. I chose the Ford for its proven design and a good track record for reliability– plus about 40 extra HP, which is a well-kept secret.
