About 20yr ago I changed the big noisy (*) contactor for the 400V/3 phase 1kW pool pump to a 4 pole relay similar to this one: https://www.reichelt.at/Industrierelais/FIN-55-34-8-230V/3/index.html?ACTION=3&LA=2&ARTICLE=13324&GROUPID=7622&artnr=FIN+55.34.8+230V&trstct=pol_4 because of the noise it made. It makes small sparks at the contacts, but is switching every day in summer since 20yrs. If there is no cleaning work to do, the pump is only switched one cycle per day by a timer. So, maybe 2000 or 3000 switching cycles is not much for a relay, but it is sufficient. And even if it would burn out now, it had a 20yr lifetime. *) the loud “clonk” when it pulled in and sometimes humming from the coil. That disturbed my father sleeping in a near room. We do not need remote control, it just has to work.

Just make sure everything is safe and properly grounded any time you’re using electrical equipment and everything should be great. No more reaching behind the Christmas tree to unplug the lights at bedtime!

Using SO for internal wiring is something that I have often done — it is resilent, flexible, and high temperature. Also a joy to strip.

1) the frequency (50-60 Hz) tends to make muscles spasm repeatedly (DC spasms and stays there) 2) the frequency can interfere with cardiac electrochemical signalling (your heart goes into fibrillation) 3) the current can pass through capacitance (shielding) and via inductance 4) the current can pass through ground return and other single-wire, open circuit States

That. Console. Is. Disgusting. Reminds me of my PT Cruiser’s cheapest part: the single piece off-white console.

Level-2 isn’t required for charging at home, but it sure makes life a lot easier. I wouldn’t use or recommend using a standard outlet for Level-1 charging unless it’s a dedicated circuit with it’s own breaker. With the larger battery packs these days Level-2 charging is becoming more popular if not necessary. Consult your electrician, but I personally think pulling wiring that will handle less than 50 amps is a waste of time. You can use a smaller circuit breaker, but the wiring needs to be robust. Most modern homes built in the last 10 years or so should have a 200 amp panel anyway, so you aren’t going to notice an EV plugged in. Again, consult a qualified, licensed electrician. Also, before you let your ‘handy’ brother-in-law install your charging station, be aware if there is a fire from improper installation, your home owner’s insurance will most likely NOT pay for the event.

I’m renovating my basement, and putting in a 240V line to my garage. Just for something to do, as I don’t have an EV.

One more thing. If you are not a electrician you should not be playing with Live power. Like you said you almost killed your family, And Possibly more people.

As a result I wrote this article in 2015 outlining the issue, what I did to ID the problem and the solution.https://www.instructables.com/id/The-inner-workings-of-Counterfeit-FOTEK-SSRs/

The Sony A33 uses the image sensor itself when metering, and considers the overall image as 1,200 separate zones in performing metering calculations. Metering modes include Multi-segment, Center-weighted, and Spot, and the metering system can function from -2 EV to +17 EV (at ISO 100 equivalent with an F1.4 lens). An autoexposure lock button is provided, allowing metering to be locked from a specific portion of the subject, then the overall image reframed as desired. +/-2.0 EV of exposure compensation is available, in 1/3 EV steps. The A33 also offers a three-frame exposure bracketing function, which allows a step size of either 1/3 or 2/3 EV between subsequent frames. Shutter speeds from 1/4,000 to 30 seconds are available, as well as a bulb position that holds the shutter open for as long as the shutter release is pressed. Flash X-sync is at 1/160 second. White balance options include auto, six presets (Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluorescent, and Flash), plus both custom and direct color temperature (2,500 to 9,900K) options. The six presets allow +/- 3 step adjustment, and there’s also a color filter setting that provides +/-9 steps of magenta / green compensation.

It’s one of those things that “everybody knows,” sort of. For continuous duty applications (and EVSEs certainly qualify), you derate the circuit breaker by 20% unless you are using circuit breakers and wiring that are specifically rated for continuous duty.
