Yeah, dont use these. Use a relay instead. There is a reason all the high end stuff went away from the Triacs as they will float to full mains voltage when no load is connected and you get electrocuted when you mess with the circuit. AMX, Crestron, Lutron, etc all have moved away from pure Triac control due to this safety issue.
I had my poke. Mostly people saying “may” or “could” invalidate your insurance and advising caution. Which is sensible enough. Also mention of laws mandating a professional installing things like new wiring for cookers, and other kitchen / bathroom stuff. Makes sense since there’s water about. This is the UK that I looked up, since that’s where I live. Our electrical standards are pretty high, mandatory ring mains, limits on spurs and wiring length, and even our mains plugs have half a dozen safety features built in (protection against the agony of accidentally stepping on one not included).

In the old days, we were always careful to remind readers to purchase a second battery along with their camera, but in recent years, battery life has become much less of a concern than it once was. Not so with the Sony A33, though: Unless you intend it only for light snap-shooting, consider the purchase of a second battery mandatory.
It’s a little unusual to see an effective pixel resolution for an electronic viewfinder, but we believe the reason effective resolution is some 20% lower than the EVF’s actual pixel count is that Sony has selected an LCD with approximately a 4:3 aspect ratio, but are only using the central 16:9 aspect ratio swathe of the display. This is likely done both to match the rear-panel LCD display aspect, and also because even with this crop, the EVF already has a generous 1.1x magnification — much higher than that of most APS-C DSLRs — and a somewhat tight eyepoint of 19mm from the viewfinder eyepiece (18mm from the eyepiece frame). Were the whole display used, the eyepoint would fall uncomfortably low — it’s already just a little tight for eyeglass wearers. Thankfully, it includes an unusually wide -4 to +4 diopter adjustment range, better mitigating the tight eyepoint for those with eyeglass prescriptions inside this range. It also has a 100% field of view, and three step automatic / manual brightness control.
1. Metal-oxide varistors (MOVs) are available in a variety of form factors and sizes for a broad range of applications. The radial leaded disc type is the most common version.
But if the power supply isn’t made for the 110-120 volt market, then yes, this can be a legit concern.
That’s also a mistake in the article, because the house ground doesn’t exactly ground the house. It just grounds the appliances. You can still have thousands of volts between a table and the wall socket ground in a thunderstorm. Even on a normal day, you have about 100 Volts per meter in potential difference just from atmospheric charges, which is why it’s a bad idea to ground the computer you’re working on unless you also ground the table, the chair, the floor and yourself.
I was looking for a high power capable latching type to stop my old car from draining its battery… Came across this.
I can only think of a single instance in the last six months where the HPWC higher charge rate would have made a difference for us, and even then it would have simply made leaving for a long trip slightly more comfortable.
For transient rise times of 0.1 to 0.2 μs, twice the unit value of surge capability is required on stator windings. When rise times reach 1.2 μs or greater, 4.5 times the unit value is stipulated. In the case of external transients such as lightning, this would equate to a surge voltage capability of 918 VPEAK for a 230-V motor (full load current = 12 A) on a 250-V high-line condition. (Lightning surges can exceed these values, so stator windings would also need a suppression element for protection.)
Most hold about 6 to 10 gallons of fuel, enough to run 8 to 16 hours before needing to be refilled. That means you also need an appropriate place to safely store 25 to 30 gallons of gasoline. You could keep just a few gallons on hand and plan to refuel, but remember that gas stations require electricity to operate their pumps. If your entire community is offline or roads are impassible, you won’t be able to get gas.
