People that build or use 3D printers aren’t necessarily qualified electricians or know how to handle high voltage safely. That’s what I mean for ” Can’t let Darwin wipe them out when they happens to the target market… ”
For example, you can assemble a computer and do anything you want with the low-voltage parts, but opening the PSU and fiddling with that is illegal in many parts of the world. IF the device later catches fire and the insurance company finds out it was modified by yours truly, they can deny coverage, and if your neighbor’s house burns along with yours they can sue you etc. etc.
Hopefully one of these days we’ll go to significantly more DC distribution all over teh place, but I often wonder if I’ll see it in my lifetime. I thought I was imagining things when I was trying to remember if Japan was 50&60, but that’s pretty fascinating.
My testimony : 230VAC doesn’t kill if you’re lucky. Lots of people died on 230VAC (Claude François….)
I will tell you guys how to dim lights with relays, but first you have to tell me how you dim them when using a zero cross detection optotriac.
Burst depth for the Sony A33 is seven Raw or Raw+JPEG frames, and 16 Fine or 20 Standard JPEG frames in a burst. That’s quite a bit less than the A55, which can capture twenty Raw or Raw+JPEG frames, while JPEG shooters can expect 35 Fine or 39 Standard-compression frames, but in our experience, the Sony A33 makes up for this deficit somewhat by clearing its buffer much faster. This means that although the A55 will get you more shots in a burst, the A33 will be ready to start another burst much sooner.
Agreed. I work in electronics as a profession. High voltage electronics no less. Industrial size high voltage power supplies. Everything about them up to maintaining them down to component level. The comments here from people are scaring me shitless from the lack of knowledge to the over the top over complication of the problem.
I’m currently looking into buying some Class 2 insulating gloves for our hackerspace, for starters. Better safe than crisp…
Relay was severely underrated for the application. Also the real moral of the story is that when you use a ten dollar relay, you get ten dollar performance.
Haha the big experts get all positive votes, but yours truly with a Master Electrician’s License gets all negatives. Hey, Believe what you want.
In the next part of this article we will venture inside some of the typical devices you will be working with to examine the individual hazards and techniques you might encounter.
I think that one of the statements that stuck with me the most while doing LV operations training was from a doctor who said “If you are admitted to my hospital with electrical burns then I will do my utmost to make sure that your family get here before you die”
