Many will ask what protects the circuit in an overload condition between the MCA and MOCP ratings? In these overload conditions, the overload protections on the motors themselves are designed to protect the circuit. If the overload protection on the compressor or fan motor fails, the windings in the motors have a far lower ampacity than the branch circuit and will fail open or shorted before the branch conductor will fail. In the case of any significant ground-fault short, the overcurrent protector (breaker or fuse) will still protect the circuit.
I heard from an instructor that some guys from the national power company use full PPE when switching on/off old main fuses in domestic installations (230V, 15 to maybe 60A). These things are fully plastic and can be operated by everyone, so no PPE needed, but it seems like they explode sometimes – maybe because of the dust you mentionned.
hmm, not sure why my comment went in the wrong place. looked like it was in the [ GuruBuckaroo] comment, when I pecked it in. The “unusual sensation” quip was spot on & funny!
But even so, you’re not likely to be arrested for adding your own electrics, I dunno that it’s actually illegal. Charging money for it would be different. But I can imagine insurance companies would hold it against you. Any excuse, of course. You’ll have to check the teeny-weeny print in your policy, and the extra documents they didn’t send you. But it’s not impossible for someone to fuck up mains wiring and burn their house down, and that would be their fault.
No, because they are opposite phase. In this setup the neutral wire doesn’t carry any current, so the same 15 amps goes through both hot wires.
If ever there was a right time to change the name, it’s now, as this ground-up, all-new car launches with all the incumbent R&D investment and expectation you might expect for a vehicle that has been benchmarked to beat the class best. So while you might reasonably argue that it would have been more straightforward if the naming U-turn hadn’t been made several months after the car was unveiled as an Auris at this year’s Geneva motor show, the truth is that when Corollas start running down the line in Burnaston, Derbyshire in a few months time, surely only Google will recall it.

If you’re totally stumped on a page of Where’s Waldo and ready to file a missing persons report, you’re in luck. Now there’s a robot called There’s Waldo that’ll find him for you, complete with a silicone hand that points him out.
No I don’t want one, because I have a computer museum and I don’t feel the need to instant-wipe all my floppy disks at the flip of a switch.
In my experiences, TRIACs fail shorted more often than explode. We have a failsafe of cutting off a mechanical relay in case it happens. Exploded TRIACs do happen though, in the rare case when the load has high leakage to earth, which we don’t have ground fault detection on our devices at the moment. TRIAC we use is rated for 40AMPS @ 600V though for industrial temperature control applications.
For example, putting 1 mA through a 1 MOhm resistor requires 1000 Volts. The current itself is barely noticeable and if it’s high frequency current you’re unlikely to feel pain – it’s just a funny spark that kinda tickles at your fingertip – but it’s still depositing 1 Watts of power into the resistance.
