In line with its stated goal of setting class standards “for best in class comfort and driving engagement”, the Corolla is 4370mm long, 1790mm wide and 1435mm high, with a wheelbase of 2640mm. That makes it 40mm longer and 30mm wider than the outgoing Auris, and 25mm lower. The obvious rivals are the Ford Focus (8mm longer, 35mm wider, 19mm higher and with a 60mm greater wheelbase) and the VW Golf (115mm shorter, as wide, 17mm higher and 3mm smaller in wheelbase.

So here follows the first in a series on how to approach electronic devices containing high voltages, and live to tell the tale. Heat damage from increased resistance is pernicious. P = I^2 * R. At 24 amps, a resistance of a mere tenth of an ohm is 57 watts – almost twice as much as a pencil soldering iron! That’s why it’s important to get those crimps done right and inspect them frequently for signs of degradation. I will readily concede that I am not equal to a manufacturer in terms of consistency and reliability of crimps, even with a ratcheting tool. The only way I can make up for that is keeping an eye on things to catch early degenerative changes before things get out of hand. Part and parcel of building high powered electrical equipment by hand is being ever vigilant when using it.

Semiconductors can fail, and when they do, they often fail in ways that make conduction paths that otherwise should not exist. Mix that with high voltage power and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

Agreed. I work in electronics as a profession. High voltage electronics no less. Industrial size high voltage power supplies. Everything about them up to maintaining them down to component level. The comments here from people are scaring me shitless from the lack of knowledge to the over the top over complication of the problem.

Similarly in the Senate, Republicans’ slim 51-49 majority means that Flake’s defection could be enough to help sink a nomination, or at the very least trigger a tie-breaker.
