I learned even more respect for shock hazards on the job one day when I was working for a military contractor. I forgot to turn off the 400VDC B+ supply to a radar driver assembly before I put one hand on the metal chassis and grabbed the fins of a lighthouse tube with the other hand. After that I put my head down on the workbench and had me a rest for a few minutes. Even when you know better, one moment of inattention can be the end.
If the device does not have it owns fuse/breaker and relies on the upstream one, it had better be able to handle the full rated current without catching fire.
Bottom line, while the Sony A33′s EVF doesn’t entirely conquer the challenges of its genre, it goes further in the right direction than any other I’ve experienced to date. Most telling is that I now find myself reluctant to give up its benefits and return to world of purely optical viewfinders once again.
On the positive side, the mechanism does allow the LCD to be folded facing inwards, providing some degree of protection against minor knocks and smudges when traveling and when you’re content to use the EVF instead. The Xtra Fine LCD panel has a 921,600-dot resolution. The display also uses Sony’s TruBlack technology, which couples a reinforced glass cover plate with anti-reflective film, and a resin filling that removes the air gap beneath the cover plate, which the company says improves contrast and reduces glare under harsh sunlight.
And another actually bigger reason for using DC instead of AC is when one wants x amount of mega watts of battery backed power, and converting that from DC to AC to DC again is rather inefficient, compared to just sending out the DC directly.
The other advantage is, if your system needs to go into debugging, you can still use the included remote for a manual override. AKA your family won’t kick you out of the house and never let you bring an invention inside again.
Low current (and damage-reducing high-frequency skin effect) on the Tesla coil’s HV secondary. Mains frequency penetration, arcability and cross-heart lethal current on the neon sign transformer’s secondary. So, it’s good that my wakeup call went in & out of the same arm.
There is a huge difference between heater and electric motor when it comes to inrush current. But anyway haven’t seen 600A contactor for switching on 60A motor.
Seriously, it looks rather sparse inside, does it not? Perhaps some of you more electrically inclined/engineering types can chime in and let us know if $750 seems reasonable now that we know what’s inside?
In their best days (unfortunately behind them), they have merely LISTED an appliance. (Listing is currently their TOUGHEST CRITERION).
Creepage to the mounting screws is one issue and that fuse crowed by traces at mains potential is just bad design.
Before I bring the tools out, I’m going to ask you questions to get an idea of what’s going on and where to look. You might have your theories about what’s wrong and what my questions mean, but don’t give roundabout replies to match those assumptions. Giving me straight answers will save us both time.
