Still can’t bring myself to install SSRs on “high current” applications, either. High quality mechanical relays.
24v 12a is not that much more at 288watts. I’m sure I’m missing something to do with electromagnetism which makes the secondary unnatractive?
About ten years ago, when the first cheap DVD players came into Australia from China, there was a huge failure rate due to this issue. The cause was almost always blown caps, and they could be fixed by up spec’ing the voltage tolerance for the caps in the supply.
I had a chance to spend a few days with a late prototype of the Sony A55 (equipped with production firmware version 1.0) prior to its release. (Note that the Sony A33 is so similar to the A55, that we’ve only made a few edits to this Field Test to make it work for the A33 review.) After running a couple thousand shots through it (it does have a very fast continuous mode) I found it to be a pretty compelling camera, combining remarkable shooting speed with a host of other capabilities that really set it apart from most of the market. It’s by no means perfect, but unquestionably expands the range of shooting capabilities open to consumers with average pocketbooks. Looking at just how much I found to comment on below underscores for me just how much Sony has done in the last few months. Read on for some of my thoughts on this new class of consumer SLR:
On the Sony A33 and A55, the EVF can serve as both shooting and playback display. As mentioned earlier, the ability to check your shots and make camera settings without taking your eye from the eyepiece leads to a slightly different and more efficient shooting style; one that encourages you to learn the camera by feel and memory, rather than looking at the controls as you press them. I’ve only had a few days with the camera as of this writing, but can see that greater familiarity will produce a very efficient shooting style.
Interesting idea. You don’t need a 3D printer for this though. Conductive strips or simple wire should work fine.
Exactly, sometimes less of a compact form factor makes a better product overall. Snubber circuit is a nice touch tough.
As with basically every other high-end Android phone this year, the Mi Mix 3 has a Snapdragon 845 processor, but breaks new memory grounds by including up to 10GB of RAM. Xiaomi is also bundling the phone with a 10W wireless charger. A 5G version is set for release in Europe early next year.
Why reinvent what is already on the market? There are heating panels beeing sold as accessory for 3d printers already. I just saw a 300x200mm 200W 230VAC silicone heating pad for around 90$. The vendor (multec.de) however clearly states that the installation has to be done by a certified electrician. I’m pretty shure these pads could be sourced a lot cheaper on other sources too. If you think you can just DIY around with 230VAC, make a mistake and hurt/kill somebody or burn down a house, you will be f”cked for life, because no insurance company will cover you. And if you kill yourself and have a family, well, thats not that great for them either. Keep that in mind. I’d rather use a bed made for 48VDC. Powersupplys are abundant for that voltage (standard for a lot of telecom/industrial equipment), reasonably safe to work with compared to 230VAC, and you still get 4 times lower currents (or more power at same current) compared to a 12V bed.
The control buttons are for the most part intelligently arranged and readily accessible, but the small space available for them on the right side of the body does mean that you need to hold the camera in your left hand to be able to access them properly: They’re really too close to the right side of the camera to keep your fingers wrapped around the grip and operate the buttons with any degree of comfort. On the angled top/back panel, the EV adjust button is perfectly located, right under your thumb, with the AE lock and movie recording buttons on either side of it. The movie button does require a deliberate reach to get to, but is nonetheless easy to identify by feel when you’re looking through the viewfinder; just slide your thumb over until it hits the viewfinder housing, and you’ll be right on top of the movie button.
Not to be argumentative, but please show me a case in which a H/O policy denied coverage for a fire loss because the homeowner used a non-UL listed device. H/O policies are contracts, strictly regulated by each state’s insurance department. The vast majority of H/O policies are “All Risk” based, meaning that you are covered for everything unless there is a specific exclusion for it. I have read many times on this forum and others about H/O policies not covering such claims, please show me ONE that actually is true. There may be one out there, but I have never seen it.
A lot of info: The Sony A33′s EVF display conveys loads of info, but the Fn menu items (shown here at the left and right edge) require a low eyepoint or eye movement to take in. (Image courtesy Sony USA.)
